Bengaluru: Eshwarappa compares DCM post to Aishwarya Rai, faces flak

Bengaluru, Dec 7: Karnataka minister for rural development and panchayat raj, K S Eshwarappa, who has the uncanny habit of embracing controversies by his unpolished remarks, found himself facing another embarrassing situation after comparing the post of the deputy chief minister (DCM) post to Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai. This response came when the scribes wanted his view on the possibility of creating another post of the deputy chief minister once the bypoll result is announced.

Eshwarappa, during a press meet, made an effort to draw similarities between the post of the deputy chief minister and Aishwarya Rai. He wanted to drive home the view that many people might aspire for the post but all of them cannot hope to get their aspirations fulfilled.

"Every politician nurses the desire to become deputy chief minister. It is like young people of marriageable age seeking to become life partner of Aishwarya Rai. Obviously, there are no more than one Aishwarya Rai," he commented, duly adding that all those who want to become the deputy chief minister cannot be accommodated.

Eshwarappa's faux pas came in response to question by reporters about the possibility of BJP candidate from Gokak, Ramesh Jarkiholi, being made the deputy chief minister after the announcement of result.

Eshwarappa has been known to make blatant, rustic remarks and get caught off guard. In the year 2015, he had courted controversy when he was the leader of the opposition in the legislative council after he made a reference to a female scribe. He had said that the opposition parties would be helpless if the journalist under question is raped by someone.

After receiving widespread flak for this comment, Eshwarappa had accused the media of misunderstanding his comment and not projecting the facts in right perspective.
