Cabinet clears Citizenship Amendment Bill, Muslims left out

New Delhi, Dec 4 (IANS): The Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave its nod to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 that seeks to provide Indian nationality to Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Parsis, Jains and Buddhists fleeing persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, said sources.

The Bill, which amends the Citizenship Act, 1955 to make illegal migrants in select categories eligible for citizenship, has been attacked by the opposition, minority outfits and others for leaving out Muslims and also on the ground that it is at odds with the Constitution, which does not differentiate between citizens on the basis of their faith.

The Bill has been opposed vehemently by opposition parties like Congress, Trinamool, DMK, Samajwadi Party, RJD and the Left and even regional parties like BJD have expressed reservations.

The Bill has sparked resentment in the northeast, and there are indications that the government is working out a compromise intended to reassure states in the region over the implications of granting citizenship to a large number of Hindus who have come from Bangladesh over the decades.

There shouldn't be discrimination on the basis of religion, however here Govt stated that, CAB is applied where in neighborhood countries aforesaid minorities are harrassing the minorities there. Try to understand the message. Govt is trying to give a sort of asylum to the oppressed ( victims )

If the opposition thinks the ruling party is doing it to increase their vote bank, we can say the opposition is also opposing for the sake of preserving their own vote bank. First of all they should understand there is nothing discriminatory in the bill against the citizens of the country. The bill has nothing to do for or against the citizens of India. This bill is in the interest of people who had come from neighbouring countries on grounds of religious persecution. It was introduced on humanitarian grounds viz. to grant shelter and protection to minorities fleeing Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Distant countries like Iran, Iraq or Syria are not included in the bill. The Muslims are a majority in all these countries and hence the question of religious persecution against them doesn’t arise.

Many non Muslims leaving in Muslim countries with settled their life with lot of property and money they will never ever come to India because they well our economy situation. But only poor non Muslims try to come India . We already have lot of poverty and government cannot support our peoples then how government support others. This just dirty politics to hide today's our economy and business issues. Nothing benefit for we indians if we think smartly.

Imagine if modi regime has fully equipped petrol resources in india then they definitely keep all the muslim regimes out of reach even sidelining foreign exchange. Thats why almighty has provided some special resource to some of the the special regimes.

Totally a undemocratic bill consist with discrimination of particular one community for sheer vote bank. Opportunist govt delivering with an agenda inviting troubles for minorities in neighboring countries and I am not surprise if they asked to leave the country and settle in India.

Minorities had been facing innumerable hardships since the creation of Pakistan and this bill of granting citizenship to them was introduced on humanitarian grounds. It is not in anyway discriminatory towards Indian citizens since it is purely in the interest of persecuted immigrants from neighbouring countries.

Come on guys, Muslims are not persecuted on religious lines in Muslim countries such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan and others. Their persecution, if any, us not based on religion but on other grounds. Opposition is not well founded.
