Bengaluru, Dec 2: A 32-year-old restaurateur, who suffered losses in business, plotted kidnap of his 13-year-old cousin for a ransom of Rs 50 lac. However, the plan was foiled after Bengaluru police acted swiftly and rescued the boy.

Mohin, the alleged mastermind behind the kidnap, is a resident of Banaswadi. Mohin plotted to kidnap his uncle’s son for ransom. Mohin’s uncle is also a restaurateur and owner of a popular hotel. Meanwhile, Mohin who manages his father’s hotel was suffering losses.

In a well thought out plan, Mohin started visiting his uncle’s restaurant regularly. He took two of his gym friends Mubarak and Ayaz into confidence and planned the kidnap.

On November 30, Mubarak and Ayaz went to the boy’s house after his father left. They then called the boy and said that his father had asked them to deliver groceries to the restaurant but they did not know the address. They asked if the boy could accompany them. The boy got into the car to show them the way. The duo abducted him.

At around 8 pm, the duo called up the boy’s father and demanded Rs 50 lac as ransom. However, the businessman called the police.

S D Sharanappa, deputy commissioner of Police (East), formed three special teams to nab the kidnappers.

The police officers wore plain clothes and acted as the emissaries of the boy’s uncle and delivered the ransom. When the kidnappers were about to collect the money, the police confronted them. Mubarak attacked head constable Renu Nayak with a dagger but police inspector Ajay Sarathy shot him, besides nabbing Ayaz and rescuing the boy.

During interrogation, the duo blurted Mohin’s name and added that Mohin had asked them to kill the boy if the ransom was not paid.
