Mangaluru: Central bus stand to come up at Pumpwell itself

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Oct 20: Smart City Limited has decided to build the central bus stand of the city at Pumpwell itself as per the initial proposal. The other proposals of building the same at Kuloor and Padil have been dropped and Pumpwell is finalized.

Information regarding this matter was shared by managing director of Mangaluru Smart City Limited, Mohammed Nazeer in the meeting of the Smart City Projects Advisory Committee that was held under the leadership of Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sindhu B Roopesh on Saturday.

Giving more information on various projects for the city, including the construction of the bus stand, Nazeer said, "It was decided to build the central bus stand at Padil. Though notification was given in newspapers for the acquisition of land for this purpose, no response was received. So it is decided to build the central bus stand of the city at Pumpwell itself, where the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has already acquired 7.5 acres of land. A final decision regarding this will be taken in the core committee meeting and tender will be invited. A proposal to build a central bus stand for the city at a cost of Rs 445 crore is ready."

With regards to the plans for development of Wenlock and Lady Goschen hospitals, Nazeer said, "There is a proposal of Rs 45 crore to add four facilities in the district Wenlock hospital including an emergency unit of 30 beds and a 100-bed wing. The Wenlock hospital has also kept a proposal of widening the road that leads to Attavar via Milagres IMA and to close the present road approach from the Railway station to Milagres. There is also a proposal of Rs 5 crore to add one more floor to the new building that is built newly at the Lady Goshen hospital with the help of MRPL."

Speaking on the development of sports grounds, Nazeer said, "Detailed Project Report (DPR) of developing Mangala Stadium at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore and Urwa sports ground at Rs 5 crore is in progress. The concerned officials are informed to submit the same by October 31."

Sharing information on the multi-storey car and two wheeler parking at the old bus stand area of the city, Nazeer said, "Tender was done and order has been passed to start work of building multi-storey car and two-wheeler parking at the old bus stand near K S Rao road of the city. A company of Bengaluru origin has got the tender for the work. There are five buildings in the area with 22 shopkeepers. This complex is being built with these buildings included. The work is still not started as the agreement between the MCC and these shopkeepers is delayed. The agreement will be done shortly and the work will begin. The multi-storey car and two-wheeler parking will have space to park 400 cars and 200 two-wheelers."

Please include provision for future construction of a metro station and temporary parking for vehicles for dropping in and a multi story parking for long term parking. Otherwise we will end up in a similar mess we are in at the Pumpwell flyover. Future infrastructure planning is very much important for a city that is growing out of control.

I request the concerned authorities to start the construction work immediately. Also make arrangements to shuffle passengers from state bank to Pumpwell and the bus services may be arranged by KSRTC itself.

Construct bus stand anywhere, but city buses and local service buses must ply through Hampankatta, Balmatta and Kankanady for the convenience of daily commuters.

    dear policy makers,
its a good idea to have bus stand on the airport road for the following reasons
    1. both the national highways are close to the airport road
    2. new railway station coming up in bondel
    3. government bus stand is also close to airport road
    4. the cricket stadium is coming up in bondel near gundu rao layout ,
    5. concrete roads with double roads are in place

I do not understand what they will do with Rs 10 Cr for Mangala stadium. Two years back when J R Lobo was MLA they did a new running track. Rather than beautifying this, they should build a new stadium on the outskirts so that other children also can enjoy than travelling to Mangalore city for their training.
