Udupi: Man flees after duping 70-year-old lady off Rs 24,000

Udupi, Oct 16: Under the pretext of Ayushman Yojana scheme, a man duped an elderly lady off her gold jewellery, here on Monday.
 
The man who identified himself as Rajesh hoodwinked Leela Bai (70), under a promise of providing her with health coverage worth Rs 3, 00,000. The accused then took Leela to the T M A Pai hospital in Udupi. Once there, he asked Leela to hand over two gold bangles and a ring worth Rs 24,000. Reportedly, Rajesh had claimed that the gold was required to pledge against the health coverage amount. Moments later, he returned with fake jewellery and fled the scene.
 
FIR against Rajesh is filed at the Udupi police station and investigation is underway.
