Tripura man held for offensive remarks against woman MP

Agartala, Oct 13 (IANS): A man from Tripura was Sunday arrested by the state police from Manipur for allegedly posting offensive comments in social media against Lok Sabha member Pratima Bhowmik, an official said.

A police official said that following a complaint last week, a case was filed against Anupam Sinha, 38, and a probe launched.

"After the police launched a crackdown for him, Sinha ran away from his home at Kalyanpur in Khowai district (under western Tripura) and took shelter in Ukhrul district (of Manipur). A Tripura Police team, acting on a tip off, went to Ukhrul, (85 km away from Imphal) and brought back here on Sunday," the official said.

Sinha would be produced in a local court here on Monday, the official added.

Bhowmik is also the General Secretary of Tripura unit of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

Earlier, Tripura Police had arrested a school teacher, a policeman and few other people for making objectionable comments against high dignitaries in the northeastern state.
