Mangaluru, Oct 4: Melparamba Najeeb alias Muhammed Najeeb alias Kallatra Najeeb (46), who had been on the run since notorious rowdy, Kalia Rafiq, was murdered at Kotekar about 30 months back, was arrested by the city crime branch police on Thursday, October 3.
In this case, a number of people including Noor Ali Rasheed T S, Husainabba alias Husain, Mutasim alias Tasleem were arrested in the past.
The incident had happened when a tipper in which the accused were seated came on the wrong side of the road from the direction of Hosangady in Kasargod district, and hit a Maruti Ritz car carrying Muhammed Jahid, Kalia Rafiq and others on February 14, 2017, when the car had stopped at Kotekar petrol bunk at around 12 am.
Driver of the tipper had parked his vehicle near the petrol bunk in advance and had hit the car as soon as the car carrying Kalia Rafiq reached the petrol bunk. Another Ertiga car carrying some more members of the team had chased Rafiq. Kalia Rafiq and others, sensing that their lives were in danger, had tried to escape at which Noor Ali and another had fired at Kalia Rafiq. They later had slain Rafiq with daggers.
It was said that Najeeb, who was driving the car in which Kalia Rafiq was seated, had participated in the murder plan. After the said murder, he was living in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ernakulam and other places. The city crime branch police here who arrested him after coming to know that he was in Kerala, handed him over to Ullal police.
The operation was executed by CCB inspector Shivaprakash R Naik, sub-inspector Kabbalraj H D and other staff under the directions of police commissioner Dr Harsha P S.
