Mangaluru, Feb 15: Rowdy sheeter Kalia Rafiq was murdered by a gang late night on Tuesday, February 14.

Kalia Rafiq was 35. He was facing more than 45 cases in Karnataka and Kerala.

Kalia Rafiq was coming towards Mangaluru from Kasargod in a Ritz car when the gang first tried to hit the front side of the car with a mini lorry at Kotekar near Ullal. Then Rafiq was shot at. After that, the assailants hacked him to death with the help of a machete.

Rafiq was in jail for many years and was recently released on bail. He had made Uppala as his base and indulged in criminal activities including extortion. Only three days back he had demanded money from a doctor in Uppala.

One of Rafiq's aides has been injured and admitted in hospital.

Rafiq's body has been kept at a hospital in Deralakatte.

A rival gang of Rafiq from Uppala is suspected to be behind the murder. It is claimed that they followed the car in which Rafiq travelled, before killing him.

Police sources in Manjeshwar have information that the murder was executed in revenge for the murder of Mutalib, who was killed by Kalia in 2013. Mutalib's brother is reportedly involved in this killing. It is said that Kalia's gang had developed animosity against Mutalib as he had severed connections with this gang after being a part of it for sometime. Mutalib had been killed on October 25, 2013.

It is said that Noor Ali, brother of Mutalib, had drawn up a plot to finish off Kalia in the past too. As part of this plan, a shootout between these two gangs had happened at Uppala a few months back. As that attempt failed, it is said that revenge for his brother's murder was taken by Noor Ali through a successful plan executed on Tuesday.

Ullal police are investigating after registering a case.

Its very strange that you see live revolver/pistol cartridges on the crime scene in the photos displayed why will someone leave them at the crime scene and that too live ones. if the victim was shot then you need to see the used shells and not live bullets.

Like Good Terrorism and Bad Terrorism there is no Better Criminals and Worst Criminals. Criminals are Criminals...

Persons who are claiming one criminal is better than other criminals are also criminals.

Part of Swatch Bharat theory. Courts can not clear this debris due to lack of witness. Rowdies can recognize rowdies and clean each other. Good way to save on public tax money and to use for some good causes.

Why to investigate and waste precious time of our cops ? He was a criminal and that is well proved by the authorities. As it is been known that he did not leave his activities even after serving the sentence for all these years, this is very clear that he is not going to improve and keep being a nuisance to the society. In my opinion, I doubt think his death should make difference to anyone and that the local citizens can leave in peace
