Saligao, Sep 20: In a surprise inspection of restaurants operating in the proximity of the village, the Anjuna sarpanch, Savio Almeida, slapped fine on three restaurants.

The inspection was undertaken to penalise the establishments who were not segregating the waste.

As per the recent laws, segregation of waste into three categories - recyclable waste, biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste is mandatory.

The restaurants which failed to follow the law were fined under the Goa Non-Biodegradable Act, 1996 by the panchayat secretary in the presence of sarpanch.
