Puttur: Murder of Karthik Suvarna Merla for financial dispute? - One arrested

Puttur, Sep 5: Relating to the stabbing of Karthik Suvarna Merla (27) to death with a knife late night on Tuesday September 3, a person has been arrested. District superintendent of police, Laxmi Prasad, said that on the face of it, this murder appears to have taken place on account of personal enmity. He asserted that two other accused would be nabbed shortly. He said that two teams have been formed for finding out and arresting the murderers. 

It has transpired that Karthik had friction with a couple of people over finances. The murder would have happened on account of this dispute. Preethesh from Uppala, who was driving the Ford Ecosport vehicle in which the accused had arrived at the spot, and who has been accused of stabbing Karthik in the abdomen at the end of an argument, is said to be the main accused. He has a background of criminal activities, it is learnt. One of the accused is said to be an office bearer of Ganeshotsava Samiti. 

The mortal remains of Karthik, which were kept in the mortuary of the government hospital here, were shifted on Wednesday to a hospital at Deralakatte for postmortem. 

MLA, Sanjeev Matandoor, zilla panchayat president, Meenakshi Shanthigodu, taluk panchayat president, Radhakrishna Borkar and other dignitaries and leaders of various organizations visited the residence of the deceased and pacified the grieving members of the family. 

On the basis of complaint filed by a relative of Karthik named Keshava Suvarna, rural police here have registered a case. Immediately after the incident, security was beefed up in the area and a contingent of Karnataka State Reserve Police was stationed near the rural police station. Police sources said that close watch would be kept at the Ganeshotsava programmes where the idols have not yet been immersed.
