New rules for school transport announced by Sharjah ruler

Sharjah, Aug 23: On Thursday, new rules for transportation of school students were announced by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. According to the new rules, only people authorized by the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority will be permitted to be operators.

Educational institutions under their direct supervision can administer school transport services or employ operators specializing in the provision of school transport. However, the institutions must keep in mind the conditions specified in these regulations.

A permit for buses for school transport will be issued by Sharjah RTA. They will also provide permits for school bus drivers, set the conditions and controls for bus traffic on the roads. In addition to that, Sharjah RTA will issue a no-objection certificate to request the issuance of a new commercial licence for the operator to practice the school transport activity or add the activity to an existing commercial licence.
