Mangaluru: Devadiga Sangha of Karnataka, Dubai distribute scholarships to students

Mangaluru, Aug 12: "Everyone gets an opportunity in his or her life. The opportunity should be used to the fullest and through hard work, success should be achieved in life and the honour of parents and the country has to be spread worldwide," said renowned entrepreneur of Dubai, managing director of ACME Building Materials Trading LLC, Dubai and film producer Harish Sherigar to the students. 

Harish was speaking after inaugurating the scholarship distribution, Pratibha Puraskara, Best Devadiga young entrepreneur - 2019 and Best Devadiga young athlete - 2019 award distribution ceremony that was held on Sunday, August 11, at the Karnataka Rajya Devadiga Sangha Samaja Bhavana at Mannagudda, Gandhinagar in the city, organized by Karnataka State Devadiga Sangha (R) Mangaluru and Devadiga Sangha Dubai.

 

Harish Sherigar further said, "Many obstacles arise when achieving a goal. We have to face them with courage and repeated tries and achieve our goal." He also thanked everyone who had given him encouragement and support in his life. 

Annappa Pai, president of district small industries association, who was the chief guest of the occasion said, "The role of seniors is also very much essential for the progress of today's young generation. It is our duty to see that no child gets deprived of education. Everyone has to contribute however much he or she can to the field of education." 

Dr Devaraj K, president of Karnataka state Devadigara Sangha, presided over the function. In his presidential address, he said, "Students should lead the life of an honourable citizen in the society by making use of the opportunities that they get to show their achievement. In addition, we have to serve the society as much as we can. Through service, we have to make good use of our life." 

The other guests who participated in the programme like renowned neurosurgeon Dr K V Devadiga, former chancellor of Kuvempu University Shivamogga, Dr B S Sherigar, president of Devadiga Sangha Dubai, Dinesh Kumar Devadiga, member of managing committee of Shri Manjunatha Kshetra Kadri, Dinesh Devadiga and president of Mangala Credit Cooperative Society K J Devadiga also addressed the gathering. 

Young achiever Sharath Kumar was conferred on the Best Devadiga Young Entrepreneur Award - 2019 by the Dr K V Devadiga Charitable Trust. Aravind A Devadiga, who was selected for the Best Devadiga Young Athlete Award - 2019, was absent due to certain unavoidable circumstances. 

Student of Alva's Vidyashree, who topped the SSLC with 623 marks, was given a laptop as a personal gift by Harish Sherigar. Harish is donating laptops to brilliant students every year during this event. 

Former soldiers Divakar Devadiga of Udupi, Katipalla Somappa Devadiga and Krishnapur J K Sundar Devadiga were felicitated during the occasion. Former soldier Dubai Dinesh Sherigar could not participate in the programme due to certain reasons. His brother Harish Sherigar received the honour and award on his behalf. 

Konchady Lolakshi Mahesh, Rashmita Keshava Devadiaga and Deeksha J Devadiga, who secured PhD in the education field, Vidyashree, who was the SSLC topper for the year 2018-19 and Archana, who scored highest marks in second PU in the year 2018-19 were felicitated on the occasion. 

Scholarships worth Rs five lac were distributed to more than 400 students, who scored good marks in the academic year of 2018-19. 

Sundar Moily welcomed the gathering. The programme was compered by Rohitashwa Maroli and Yashvita Devadiga. Ashok Moily, vice-president of Karnataka State Devadiga Sangha rendered the vote of thanks. 

Treasurer Geetha V Kallianpur, joint secretary B Hemant Kumar, K Sridhar Moily, Organizing secretaries Prakash Sherigar, Ranjan Das K, Sathish D, president of youth organization Dhanraj N D, president of women's organization Uma Raviraj, secretary of women's organization Veena Ganesh, coordinators of the programme Kusum H Devadiga, Udaya Kumar Kanvatheertha, Mamata Devadiga, Lokananda Derebailu and members of central committee, women's and youth organizations were present on the occasion.
