Mangaluru, Jun 25: Muslim Welfare Forum, Jokatte, has accused the concerned of harassing innocent young Muslim men from Jokatte by imposing serious sections like 153 of Indian Penal Code in connection with bursting of crackers and recording the same on video when the cattle released by the court were brought.

Member of Jokatte gram panchayat, A K Ashraf, said in a press conference on Monday June 24, said that the city police commissioner was approached with a request to withdraw these cases.

"Muhammed Haneef from Jokatte has been carrying out activities like animal husbandry, dairying and poultry farming. On June 3, Panambur police had raided his place and taken into possession 23 cows. Even though Haneef produced documentary proof about purchase of cows, they arrested him. When the documents were produced in court, the court ordered release of cows. Even after releasing of the cows, the police keep visiting the place to check the cattle," he stated.

Ashraf said that even before the cattle were brought, some local youth had burst crackers. Later, they showed the scene of cows being led home. Some miscreants joined these two videos and shared them. Haneef does not have anything to do with this video. The police should stop harassing Haneef and other locals by registering cases under stringent sections of the law, He demanded.

Muslim Welfare forum convener, O M Abdul Khader, SDPI district president, Athaulla Jokatte, advocate, Abdul Majeed Khan, gram panchayat former president, B Shekhunhi, Anjuman Orphanage convener, Abdul Khader Goa, and JD(S) leader, B K Husain, were present.
