Mangaluru: Wenlock Hospital video goes viral - Case filed against patient's friend

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SB)

Mangaluru, Jun 17: A case has been registered against a person who shot a video, in which he is heard abusing doctors, police and staff at Wenlock Hospital for delay in treating his friend.

Condemning the assault of doctors in Kolkata, doctors all over the country went on a day-long strike. As the private hospitals remained non-functional, Wenlock Hospital and Lady Goschen Hospital in Mangaluru witnessed an unprecedented rush of patients.

Meanwhile, a youth who had injuries and was bleeding was brought for treatment at Wenlock hospital. Doctors gave the patient first aid and asked his friends to wait for some time, as they had to handle other emergency cases.

Meanwhile, one of the patient’s friends, who got angry regarding the delay in treatment, took out his mobile camera and shot a video of the doctors, police and staff and in the background is heard abusing them with filthy words. He also threatened to attack them and later shared the video with all his friends on social media.

When the video became viral, many stood in support of the doctors. They praised them for doing their duty when others were on strike and managing the rush in spite of challenges. They demanded a case to be registered against the video maker, for being insensitive and for not understanding the emergency situation at the hospital.

The medical officer of Wenlock Hospital, who came across the video, registered a case at Pandeshwar police station against the person who shot the video and abused doctors. The case was filed under sections 504 IPC & 3 ,4 of Karnataka Prohibition of Violence Against Medicare Service Personnel and Damage to Property in Medicare Service Institutions Act, 2009.

I am completely with this gentleman. The doctors and nurses shows no care and compassion. Can u wait 90 mins for a patient with head injury to be attended.?Ridiculous. He is absolutely right in saying about the clinical negligence, to say the least that this staff lack communication skills to talk to family.

Patient's relatives or friends loose patience when the patient is not taken due care or on time. There should be proper arrangement to handle such cases even while hospital is busy attending emergency patients. Making people to wait for hours with any communication might rattle them. Please ask them to be patient and wait and explain the reasons for the same through some announcements. But emergency case at any cost should be attended on time or make alternative arrangements to take to some other hospital.

But using abusive language is not acceptable at all. Some people in our districts has abusive or filthy language in tip of their tongue. May be for them it is not a big matter but for decent people it offends. Even in road when there is a small accident we see usage of these words. They have to stop this culture which brings bad name to our districts.

Some Doctors got beaten up in Kolkata and the entire medical staff of the nation go on strike ! There are already laws in existence to deal with those culprits. What guarantee these doctors have that they are not beaten up, if the stricter laws are enacted in favor of them?

Life is more precious than getting abused. Please do not play with human lives by going on strike or showing negligence to patience. That is not suitable for medical profession. A few years back medical profession was considered a calling and it was not a money making business. Today there is a lot of difference between medical education and medical degrees. You never know who is the real doctor and who is the quack. Govt. should ban striking by essential service staff.

Anyway, abusing or beating up is not a solution not only for medical staff but also for anyone else for non performance.

If people would dare to do the same in other places like banks, govt offices etc. We would have a better India . Why can't we do the same to the politicians ?? Take a phone abuse n threaten the contractors , engineers for delay in work . Pumpwell flyover would have got completed long back.

    Doctors are easy targets!

Very few hospitals open today in view of strike. When few doctors try to man a busy emergency department in a day like today , patients will have to wait especially the ones without life threatening injuries/medical conditions(this is called a triage system and is in practice worldwide). Also note that the concerned patient had already received first aid. Abusing the very doctors/nurses who are working inspite of the strike , will only ensure their participation in the next strike call (thanks to bitter experience s such as today's). There are no winners in this situation, Only losers (patients lose their health, doctors lose their healthy work atmosphere which they need and deserve to treat the sick)

Wenlock has been giving best medical care
    Patient came serious
He was seen by Emergency care Doctor
Nurse had administred Oxygen and drip then told to wait for further treatment as they have to see more serious patients
This is common when you have to handle many serious patients
May be next arrival was totally unconscious
instead of being a Patiently waiting Patients relative he wanted to act smart by taking his own video
Now govt is cotemplating to make Doctor attack non bailable offense and this OVER SMART SOCIAL MEDIA EXPERT WILL BE FIRST CASE
because he made video of his own crime
