Mangaluru, Jun 13: Adam from Beltangady has filed a complaint in the cyber crime police station here. He has accused a person named Chanda Ashraf alias Sarfaq Kannur of editing photos found in Facebook account to project obscenity and streaming them in WhatsApp group. The complaint was made on Tuesday June 11.

Chanda, a resident of Kannur, had created a WhatsApp group, 'Mangaluru Rajakiya' in which he added some political leaders, well-known entrepreneurs and people in executive positions as members. He has been making the group look like indulging in hot debates over burning political issues. He collected all information about some members of the group, copied their photos from their Facebook accounts, and allegedly edited them to make them look obscene. He has been demanding money from these people and threatening them with spreading their obscene pictures, it is said.

A few people who did not want to allow their reputations to get sullied, paid money to this person and opted out of his WhatsApp group, it is reported. Chanda uses a number of SIMs to indulge in this activity. The complainant stated that Chandra Ashraf had also edited photos of his paternal uncle's son, Mohammed, and that of Mohammed's son, and coerced Mohammed into paying money, the complainant stated.

A case relating spreading of dirty articles through WhatsApp has been registered against the accused in Kadri police station. The police are investigating the case. Once his crime is established, the police may register more cases against him.

Chanda Ashraf now lives in Kuwait, said the complaint.
