Bengaluru: Government wilts under pressure - Agrees to review Jindal land decision

Bengaluru, Jun 12: The coalition government, which was stubborn so far on the issue of going ahead with the implementation of its decision to sell 3,667 acres of land to JSW at Ballari, has retraced its steps.
Under pressure from the opposition leaders and veterans from their own parties, the government has decided to review the decision.

The chief minister has instructed industries ministry to review the matter once again, and place the same before the cabinet meeting.

In a tweet, Kumaraswamy said that he has discussed the matter of selling land to Jindal with the deputy chief minister, Dr G Parameshwar and industrial minister, K J George. He said that he has advised the ministers to review the decision and place the same for reconsideration in the cabinet meeting.

The coalition government has decided to be extremely careful when moving ahead in this issue, as the opposition BJP has transformed the issue into a potent weapon to hammer the ruling parties. It has desisted from taking immediate decision. The issue would be considered through the cabinet sub-committee and also win over the confidence of the opposition before taking a final decision.

It is said that the matter was brought to the notice of the party high command by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, Dinesh Gundu Rao and the party high command by veteran leader, H K Patil. State Congress-in-charge, K C Venugopal, had suggested to take a decision after a thorough consideration if it has the makings of causing embarrassment to the party in future. Therefore, the state decided not to use this for political mileage.
