Hassan: Newly-elected JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna decides to resign

Daijiworld Media Network - Hassan (MS)

Hassan, May 24: Prajval Revanna, who had contested as an alliance candidate of Congress and JD(S) from the district and defeated A Manju of BJP by a whopping margin of more than one lac votes, has sprung a surprise by saying that he is going to resign after seeking blessings from the workers and senior leaders of the party.

Congress and JD(S) alliance has suffered a humiliating defeat in the Lok Sabha elections in the state. Except D K Suresh from Congress and Prajwal Revanna from JD(S), all other candidates have tasted defeat. BJP, which was expecting to bag 22 seats, bagged 25 seats.

JD(S) has suffered in the seats of Mandya and Tumakuru, which were criticised by the opposition parties as the election of grandfather and grandson. Nikhil Kumaraswamy was defeated by Sumalata Ambareesh in Mandya and former PM Deve Gowda was defeated by G S Basavaraju of BJP. It is said that these results have pained Prajwal. As a consequence of this he has given the statement saying, "I offer my sincere gratitude to the people of the district for having elected me in the Lok Sabha elections. However, though I have won, I feel like I am defeated. So I will seek the blessings of everyone and resign."

Prajwal, who expressed sadness about the defeat of Deve Gowda in Tumakuru, emotionally said, "Deve Gowda is defeated in Tumakuru. But he had fought hard in that constituency. Deve Gowda did not come from political background, but by struggle. We have been defeated accidentally. No one should feel bad."

Prajwal has said that he will meet Deve Gowda at around 1 pm on Friday, May 24 and try to convince him about his decision. Prajwal further said, "Devegowda had sacrificed this constituency for my sake. But he has to come back to Hassan. The people of Hassan have voted for me. I completely respect them. My intention is not to insult anyone. I am always indebted to the love and faith of the people."

"Deve Gowda should not lose interest in politics. I am taking this decision as per my conscience. I will meet the chief minister and take decision. I have already called Deve Gowda on the night of Thursday, May 23 and have told him my decision. I have decided to make Deve Gowda victorious in Hassan and give him a victory ceremony. Contesting is important and not winning," added Prajwal.

Congratulating Modi on his tremendous victory, Prajwal said, "Victory and defeat are part of today's election process. We will win the next time. We will definitely win the hearts of people in coming days. People have supported Modi in this elections. I offer my good wishes to Modi."

Prajwal had defeated BJP candidate A Manju by a margin of 1.42 lac votes in the constituency of Hassan. Former PM Deve Gowda was representing this constituency from the past 30 years.

if he wanted to resign, why did he become a candidate in the first place? He too should have lost along with his cousin and grandfather. It is a good thing that all political dynasties got clobbered in this election - I hope they are erased from politics forever. Sadly, Yeddy's family is still to be erased from politics.

Is family emotions bigger than National Interest and tax payers money?. If HDD Agrees , he will resign and HDD will re contest in the elections of Hassan to replace youngster with a 87 year old MP.

I am unsure if this is justice to voters of the region as re-election is a lot of pain and expenditure for the govt.

I felt very sad when Devegowda lost given the fact he would have easily won in Hassan. Undoubtedly he is most iconic politician from Karnataka, greed to launch grand children in family stoop so low that they did not care about Devegowda.

With due apologies & regret...,. In my view... & opinion..., after seeing the biased approach of EC...., and the apex court's views..., the outcome of the election far from calling it as sacrosanct....,

And all opposition leaders & the public are feeling such kind of vagueness & vacuum, and somewhere every opposition leaders & supporters are feeling a sense of despair..., due to lack of transparency & trustworthiness...,
Hence, in my view..., probably Honorable MP Prajwal Gowaji..., taking a matured decision..., and I call all opposition leaders reject & opppose to take oath..., in protest against the election outcome....!!! to draw the attention of EC & to give call for their introspection.....!!!!

    What transparency my dear?

Cong won in MP, Rajasthan, Chathisgarh in assembly elections few months back conducted by same EC. DMK won in TN. UDF won in Kerala, Jagan won in Andhra, BJD won in Orissa in the 2019 MP elections. There was no transparency ??

Because of opinion like this, Cong will never improve.

Learn to honor the peoples' verdict or they will punish you more.

Mera Bharat Mahaan thab hoga when you realise the truth.

Winning & losing is part of election but EC having deaf ears to single party candidate for example Modi's speech: why EC didn't take action, why was the officer suspended when he checked modi,s helicopter as Modi was travelling for election canvasing but not as PM,Sadhvi was allowed to contest even though she has criminal cases against her,SmrithiIrani gave two different educational details which was not investigate,Retd EC commisioners were not heeded ,TAX officers,CBI was used to raid opposition leaders house&office during election canvasing
So it proves Motu & feku bought EC by paying huge amount

If your family just cries in front of people people will not fee any sympathy.. instead you would have helped the poor and work on progress of your constituent you would have definitely won . You have so much wealth that your grand children grandchildren can sit and eat without working at home. So stop playing foul. People have opened thier eyes and the result shows all.. Atleast from now work for the betterment of people as they had believe you once and atleast you can try your luck next

The need of the hour is to stay together rather than air personal opinions, resigning etc. JDS and Congress got together to serve the people of Karnataka. There are difficulties to stay together, but nothing is impossible. BJP can pull them down, but people will suffer. In the best interest of the State(s), the present arrangements must continue to serve the people of the State(s). Mr. Baig being such a senior congressman, looked to be in a haste to empty his emotions publicly. It is always better to remain within the party fora and work for the party, correct the misdeeds and help the party build up a young team for the future. Winning and Losing is always a part of any healthy competition. There is no need to get disappointed. Work for the party at grassroot levels. Look at BJP grassroot .... they requested people to show their allegiance by placing a party flag in front of their doors. Little deeds - do work positiely.

This is exactly what dynasty politics does. So many people spent so many hours working to make a democratic process work. People stood in line in the scorching sun to cast their votes, fought with their friends to propagate their favorite candidate and at the end they get this!!. Because he feels sad for his grandfather!. People must be feeling so stupid right now. They should go for re election and lose, that will be a fitting reply.
