Sion flyover in Mumbai to be shut from May first week

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, Apr 20: The total closure of Sion flyover on Dr Ambedkar Road at Sion junction, is expected from the first week of May as Friday saw the mobilisation of men and machinery to initiate overhaul of the flyover. The flyover was proposed to be closed for two months from April 20. However, closure plans are now being reworked.

According to MSRDC officials, the 15-year-old flyover will completely closely for traffic when contractors reach a stage where they have to lift girders up to replace bearings on the pillars.

From the past 21 days, heavy traffic has already been diverted from the flyover. It is said that traffic authorities led by the joint commissioner of police will inspect the area for traffic diversion on Saturday and take a final call on traffic diversion plan. IIT-Mumbai experts had conducted a structural audit of the flyover and recommended the proposed overhaul.
