Mangala College of Paramedical Sciences

Mangala Charitable Trust started Mangala College of Paramedical Sciences in the year 2004, which provides a comprehensive idea, principle and practices of various paramedical procedures. The fundamental idea behind these courses is to develop and mould the students as successful individuals to get a job not only in India but also abroad.

The courses in paramedical sciences are designed as such, to provide balance of professional and general education and to enable students become professional paramedical technicians. Mangala College of Paramedical Sciences is the first in twin districts and fourth in entire state to introduce special training in paramedical sciences including dialysis technology and ophthalmic technology course.

The College offers various bachelors and diploma courses such as BSc Optometry, Anaesthesia Technology, Renal Dialysis Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Imaging Technology and Operation Theatre Technology.

Para Medical Courses: Paramedical personnel also called Paramedics are health-care workers who provide clinical services to patients under the supervision of a physician or surgeon and other medical consultants. This category includes nursing practitioners, physician’s assistants and all type of medical technicians. Paramedics are technicians and supporting staff with a complete knowledge of their field and they have important role in our healthcare system. Laboratory, Radiology, Ophthalmology, Anesthesiology, Dialysis, all these are main branches of paramedics. The increasing demand for skilled paramedical professionals has opened up several career opportunities for young aspirants.

DMIT/ BSc IT: Medical Imaging Technology is a process of creating visual images of the interior of a body for clinical analysis and medical purposes to recognize diseases. As a discipline and in its widest sense, it is part of biological imaging and incorporates radiology which uses the imaging technologies of X-ray radiography, magnetic resonance imaging, medical ultrasonography or ultrasound, endoscopy, elastography, tactile imaging, thermography, medical photography and nuclear medicine functional imaging techniques as positron emission tomography (PET) and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). There are a lot of job opportunities for radiographers inside India and also globally.

DOT / BSc Optometry: There are many career options available to Optometric graduates as a result of their academic and clinical experience. They can start independent Optometric Clinic with Optical outlet. Practice in eye institutions/hospitals as every eye institution has an optometrist apart from ophthalmologists in their faculty.

DMLT/ BSc MLT: Medical Laboratory Technology programme also called clinical laboratory science is an allied health profession that is concerned with the treatment, diagnosis and prevention of disease through the use of clinical laboratory tests. During the programme these tests help candidates to learn and diagnose, detect and treat diseases. Additionally the programme deals with collecting of information sampling, reporting, testing and documentation. Such graduates are hired in capacities such as Laboratory Technician, Laboratory Manager, Lab Assistant, Laboratory Testing Manager, Associate Professor/Lecturer etc.

BSc Anesthesia: An Anesthesia Technician is an allied healthcare professional who assists in administration and monitoring of anesthesia and has an extensive knowledge of anesthesia techniques, instruments, supplies, and technology. Anesthesia technicians are mainly employed by anesthesia departments or operating theatre suites, but can be found in other areas of clinical practice including emergency departments, intensive care units (ICU) and day surgery clinics. Anesthesia technicians work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team that includes doctors, nurses and support staff.

DHI: According to the BLS, most health inspectors, regardless of specialty, have a combination of formal education and on-the-job training. Diploma in Health Inspector is a popular choice amongst candidates looking to pursue a career in Public Health, Sanitation, and Private Medical Bodies. The students completing this course are offered jobs in Municipal Corporations, hotel chains, private medical bodies, diagnostic centres and laboratories.

GNM/ BSc Nursing: Nurses usually work in healthcare setups such as hospitals (Government and Private), clinics, nursing homes and NGOs. They are also capable of providing services at rural and community level healthcare initiatives and schemes. Nursing is a noble profession. They work in health care teams to make the health care system function by providing a range of diagnostic, technical, therapeutic and direct patient care and support services that are critical to the other health professionals they work with and the patients they serve. Together with a range of technical and support staff they may deliver direct patient care, rehabilitation, treatment, diagnostics and health improvement interventions to restore and maintain optimal physical, sensory, psychological, cognitive and social functions."

DOTT/ BSc OTT: Operation Theatre Technology course is a job oriented paramedical course. OT Technicians work in Operation Theatre of hospitals, Emergency Departments and Intensive Care Units. Their main responsibility is to assist and help doctors and surgeons during surgery and emergency procedures. Also known as surgical technicians or technologists, they directly contribute to the success of surgical operations. Operation Theatre Technologists are required across all hospitals who conduct surgeries such as General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Gynecology Surgery, and Urology etc. They take care of smooth working of ICUs, CCUs and Operation theatres in healing facilities and centers. Government and private healing centers and facilities having surgical wards hire operation theatre professionals.

DDT / BSc RDT: Dialysis is defined as the process of removing excess water and toxins from the blood through an artificial manner that is with use of some medical equipment or machinery. In modern hospitals and clinics offering dialysis treatment, haemodialysis machines are used to perform artificial purification process. After completing the course, dialysis technicians may work under the supervision of specialized doctors and nurses at hospitals or healthcare setups offering dialysis treatment.

DMRT: Diploma in Medical Record Technology course is suitable to provide students with an understanding of how to manage records and information in a health care environment. A medical records technician (also known as a health information tech) is an administrative job which primarily involves administrative tasks such as record keeping in a medical office setting. This person keeps patient records updated and complies with healthcare coding system standards. It is a job oriented paramedical course.

BPT Physiotherapy: The treatment of disease, injury, or deformity by physical methods such as massage, heat treatment and exercise rather than by drugs or surgery. They maintain health for people of all ages, helping patients to manage pain and prevent disease. Musculoskeletal which is also called orthopedic physiotherapy and is used to treat conditions such as sprains, back pain, arthritis, strains, incontinence, bursitis, posture problems, sport and workplace injuries, plus reduced mobility. Rehabilitation following surgery is also included within this category.

Bachelor of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology: Audiology concerns the area of hearing loss, its diagnosis and rehabilitation. This is from newborns to geriatrics. There are many sub fields too. Speech-language pathology concerns communication disorders in its broadest description. Its scope is too wide to explain here. You will be working in different setups. It can be hospitals, clinics, private centers, universities, schools and much more.

One can learn about the normal aspects and disorders of speech, language and hearing. The students are trained in evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and management of communication disorders. The students get hands-on experience in dealing with clients under the supervision of qualified staff.

Facilities

The Mangala Group of Educational Institutions has facilities such as well equipped laboratory and good library.

The general laboratory is fully equipped to conduct several bio chemical, hematological and microbiological investigations. Anatomy and physiology laboratories are well equipped with the paramedical art lab fledged with dummies, models, charts and equipment needed for students learning. Well equipped nursing foundation lab, nutrition lab, MCH lab, community health lab and A V Aids lab provide enriching experience to the students.

Library

The college has good library with relevant reference and issue books for all offered courses, written by both foreign and Indian authors. Latest health related magazines, newsletters, CD's and other IT material are available for reference. Qualified professionals manage library.

The entire atmosphere of the library is just right for the students to study and prepare themselves for any forthcoming examinations, training purpose, other clinical and community postings for self learning.

Teaching faculty

The college has a band of learned, experienced, dedicated professors and lecturers and leading consulting doctors, who can teach, guide and prepare the students to attain professionalism in their career. Regular guest lecturers by experts, seminars and medical related projects are conducted. The College encourages overall personality development by regular participation of students in various inter-collegiate and other competitions. Study tours are arranged regularly to give good exposure to medical projects taken up by large hospital and research centers. Classrooms are well equipped with drawing and drafting boards.

In later years, the trust began to expand its educational institution with New Mangala School of Nursing and Mangala College of Nursing in the year 2006 and 2012 respectively.

Mangala Hospital and Mangala Kidney Foundation, a super specialty hospital with all modern equipments, was established in 1988. The Director Dr Ganapathy P with the intention to start and establish a well equipped educational institution that would support the medical field, started Mangala Group of Educational Institutions. He has shown keen interest in its development and the institutions which stand tall are the proof for the same.
