Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Mar 27: The city corporation has requested the citizens to use drinking water in a judicious manner. It pointed out that inflow in River Netravati has come to a standstill, and the available water in Thumbe dam needs to be used till the rainy season begins.

"Drinking water needs of the city are met from River Netravati. To handle water shortage in an effective manner, the people should desist from using drinking water for maintaining their gardens, wash vehicles and other purposes. They are requested not to waste water at any cost," the city corporation has requested.

The city corporation commissioner has also advised people to immediately severe tap water connections they had obtained for construction work within the city limits forthwith, and cooperate with the city corporation.

Due to concrete roads, lots of water gets wasted instead of seeping into the ground which in turn cause flash floods. If proper system is implemented to let this water seep into the ground....there shouldn't be water shortage in Mlore. Also public too should take the responsibility of water harvesting.
Why can't the Corporation do something about it ?

A small city like Mangalore with less population & the heavy rains in the entire district during monsoon, but still we face shortage of water, what a shame.
Why there is no enough water storing dams, wells, rivers not been done?
Imagine if Mangalore population was like that of Bangalore city????
