I can just comment that it was a lucky escape for the auto rickshaw driver John and the students who were in the rickshaw which was hit by a reckless car driver. It could have been worst as I saw the pictures posted by Umesh Marpalli of Daijiworld. God only saved all of them and we should thank him.

This has just become a ritual. 3 years back, 8 kids died when the tragic accident happened between Omni and a Car in Trasi, Kundapur. For few months Police imposed lot of regulations against Autos and other vehicles carrying school children. After that everything was back to 'normal'.

Today again in an accident 8 school kids got injured in an accident near Santhekatte. Whom to blame? The auto drivers or parents or schools or police or district administration or government or the complete system? Fortunately kids are safe today, all are busy with election preparations hence nobody will care.

Dislikes on my comment below show the lack of awareness people have towards safety.

We cannot control the minds of stupid drivers. They will do some stupid things while driving which will lead to an accident. But what we can do against this is, to have some safe vehicles for children.

How many people are supposed to be carried in an auto rickshaw? is it 7 ?? so before disagreeing on my comment. i ask people put their brains to good use.

All autorickshaws have to be banned from taking school children.

They dont even have the most basic safety requirement i.e, doors!!!!!! in an event of a collision, there will be a high tendency for the occupants to be thrown around.

Our traffic authorities are useless at their jobs. they will fine for shrill horns but they don't enforce the busses to close their doors. They also allow the buses to carry passengers standing!!!! in an event of an accident they will be thrown around inside the bus injuring others. Our roads are built in a haphazard way that the occurrence of accidents is inevitable. And for every accident, we tend to have only one solution i.e, speed breakers, which is a stupid solution in the first place. Next, our police who are most brilliant people on the face of this earth come up with a brilliant solution of their own, i.e, putting up barriers on the highway!!!!!! who comes up with solutions like these???? are we living in a retard land????

If traffic authorities have any seriousness in their job, please enforce proper, sensible rules.

Right from the moment I step out of my house in the morning on my two wheeler and throughout the day when I am driving, I am extremely alert on the road.
I have driven for 14 years in Dubai but never got scared. But in India. God Save!
Even if I drive properly, there is no guarantee that the other will not bang me.
Really pathetic road and unscientific signals, curves, approaching roads etc coupled with the nonsense driving art of our country.

Santhekatte Junction is a dangerous junction.

There is total chaos in this junction.

Bus stand, people crossing road, vehicle crossing, vehicle speeding in highway, Santhe market.. all are happening simultaneously there.

When will the authorities wake up? Few deaths and many accidents have already occurred. They are waiting for whom?

    Sreekumar,

Why you ignore the serious lack of safety that autorickshaw provides. Autorickshaws need to be banned from carrying children.

    Sri.
I support you in this ..
This time you have given sensible comment.
Yes i my point of view Auto's should be banned transporting kids
There should be only mini buses with diffrent colour ( usually Yellow). With max kids to displayed.
Even Maruthi omini are not safe.
But unfortunatley we parents are not supporting this rule
So what can RTO Nor police do nor administration

Do you want anyone one to name the driver as Hindu or Muslim or a Christian.... foolish people like you create these difference. Who ever may be the auto drive or the car driver... bot were speeding and its the mistake from both side... the auto driver had to be careful as he is taking small kids... and the car driver has to drive slowly as well.. whats the hurry where they have to rush.. what will happen if 5 or 10 min late.... such kind of accidents may permanently take them up for trying to save just 5 or 10 min.... drive slowly... drive safely.. its good for all...
