Mangaluru: St Joseph the Worker Church Neermarga celebrates memorable Catechism Day

Mangaluru, Feb 26: The annual Catechism Day of St Joseph the Worker Church Neermarga was expressively celebrated on Sunday February 24.

It commenced with the Eucharistic celebration by Fr Ivan D Souza, while Fr Anil D'Mello parish priest concelebrated.

During the mass, thanksgiving prayers were offered to the triune God for bestowing blessings throughout the year. The liturgy was led by parents and children and all took active participation in the Eucharistic banquet.

The children’s harmonious choir added more exquisiteness to the celebration. Fr Ivan in his homily said through learning of Catechism we become excellent children of God and explicated it through anecdotes and facts.



After mass, refreshments were served to all. The cultural programme was held at the church hall presided over by Fr Anil D'Mello attended by Fr Ivan D'Souza as chief guest, while Prakash Pereira, Jerald Lobo, Brother Cyril Fernandes were guests of honour.

The event began with a prayer dance by the students of class III.

Adeline, Jackson and Lester welcomed the distinguished guests and elite guardians with their sweet flowing words of welcome. Speaking on the occasion Fr Anil D'Mello praied the sacrifices and hard work of the catechism teachers and the coordinator in imparting spiritual education.

The cultural performance included display of talents from the students of grade one to ten.

The various value based cultural items enhanced the beauty of the day’s celebration. The skits presented were well appreciated by the gathered crowd. Prizes were distributed to 250 students who secured highest marks in the catechism exams, Catechism workbook and who attended the classes with 100% attendance. Catechism teachers were also felicitated with gifts.

Philip and family were the main sponsors for the prizes. Kumari Valerie, Gretta Vas and Patrick shared their experiences. The teachers, students and parents expressed thanks to Fr Anil for his persistent efforts in imparting teaching about the essential truths of our faith in a motivating and consequential manner.

YCS students compered the entire programme.

Celestine coordinator of the Sunday Catechism issued a message of thanks.

It was a very colourful and enjoyable day which will be remembered for a long span of time.
