Byndoor, Feb 10: The rider of a motorbike, who tried to save a bicycle rider who suddenly crossed his path at a road bend, turned seriously ill 25 minutes later and breathed his last thereafter. This strange incident happened at Uppunda village within the limits of the police station here on Saturday February 9.
The bike rider who died under mysterious circumstances has been identified as Gireesh (27), son of Sheena Achar, a local.
Gireesh was riding his motor bike from his house towards Uppuda on some work. On this occasion, he saw that an aged person was riding his bicycle through an inner road towards the highway without looking at the traffic. Noticing this, and in order to avoid hitting the cyclist, Gireesh applied both the brakes of his two-wheeler. Still, the motor bike wheels skidded along the concrete road and he hit the bicycle hard. Both Gireesh and the bicycle rider fell on the road due to the impact of the collision.
The bicycle rider suffered some injuries in the accident, while Gireesh had only a small injury in his temple region. The locals made the cyclist seated in an auto rickshaw and both Gireesh and the old man were admitted into a private hospital in the town. Gireesh did not show any signs of discomfort on account of the accident. He was moving about normally and talking to others. By then 25 minutes had elapsed since the accident had happened. Gireesh then suddenly vomited, and blood started oozing out profusely from his nose and mouth. He was immediately taken to a hospital at Kundapur. In view of the seriousness of his condition, the doctors there advised him to be shifted to Manpal Hospital. However, he died on the way.
The doctors are of the opinion that blood clot would have occurred in his lungs at the time of the accident and his lungs would have ruptured due to the pressure caused by the accumulation of blood there, resulting in his death.
Gireesh was a social worker, and had a large team of friends and well wishers. He was supporting his family by working for an electrical shop in the town. His family is in abject poverty, and Gireesh's death has delivered a major blow to his close ones.
In the meantime, the injured bicycle rider is recuperating in the hospital. A case was registered in this connection in Byndoor police station.
