Brahmavar, Feb 8: The police have succeeded in solving the double murder case in which Yatish Kanchan and Bharat Poojary, who were friends, were hacked to death near Chikkanakere, Manuru, Kota in the taluk on January 26 on silly pretext. This incident had evoked lot of protests anger among the people as innocent youngsters were done to death for minor reason.
Relating to the case, two persons, Rajashekhar Reddy (44) and Ravi alias Medical Ravi (42) were arrested from Madikeri on Thursday February 7.
Four more accused were arrested from Hosanagara in Shivamogga district today. The arrested accused happen to be Harish Reddy (40), brother of Rajashekhar Reddy, Mahesh Kumar alias Mahesh Ganiga (38) from Kodavoor, M Ravichandra Poojary alias Ravi (28) from Laximinagar Kodavoor and Raghavendra Kanchan (38).
Among them, Raghavendra Kanchan (38) who is a BJP zilla panchayat member, already faces attempt to murder case. He has also been a rowdy sheeter. It is learnt that Kanchan was in constant contact with the accused Rajashekhar Reddy over phone since January 23. The first call after the said murders was also made by Rajashekhar Reddy to Kanchan, the policemen claim.
Kanchan was grilled by the police on Thursday. He was arrested today. All the arrested accused are proposed to be produced in the court today. The police plan to seek their police custody to assist completion of their probe.
Among the accused, Harish Reddy faces seven criminal cases whereas Rajashekhar Reddy faces nine cases. Mahesh is an accused in a previous murder case.
Five different teams had been formed under the leadership of deputy superintendent of police, Jaishankar, to investigate the case. One of the teams was led by district crime intelligence bureau inspector, Kiran, the second one by Brahmavar station inspector, Srikanth, the third one by Sampath attached to women's police station here, the fourth by circle inspector here, Manjunath, and the last one by Kaup circle inspector, Mahesh Prasad.
