Kundapur, Jan 14: Taluk health officer, Dr Nagabhushan Udupa, stated that a report relating to mysterious serial deaths of monkeys in the taluk would be received in a couple of days.

So far, a total of 12 carcasses of monkeys have been found in villages adjoining forest areas in the taluk since a week. Postmortems were conducted and samples taken from the monkeys were sent to virus detection laboratory at Shivamogga. The laboratory is conducting tests and reports are expected in two days, Udupa clarified.

He said that with the support of forest and veterinary departments, programmes to create awareness and information about the disease would be conducted. He said that DPN oil, which can prevent lice which spreads the disease, is being distributed. He stated that so far, no one from the taluk has exhibited symptoms of monkey fever, and the health department has been handling all the issues on a war footing.

The condition of a woman from Sagar taluk, who is a victim of monkey fever, turned serious on Sunday. The identity of the woman has been given as Savita from Aralagodu gram panchayat, who is being treated in Manipal hospital. On Sunday, three more patients from Aralagodu primay health centre limits were shifted to Manipal for treatment. Since December 24, 193 has suffered from fever, out of which 153 were suspected to have been infected with this disease. Among them, 60 cases have tested positive.
