Bantwal: Revered religious scholar Mittabail Ustad breathes his last

Bantwal, Jan 9: Highly respected religious scholar, vice president of Samasta Kerala Jamiyyatul Ulema, and director of Karnataka Islamic Academy Kumbra, Shaikhuna Alhaj Abdul Jabbar Musliyar Mittabail Ustad (72), passed away at his residence at Mittabail, B C Road, on the night of Tuesday January 8. 

He was a noted spiritual leader for the Muslim community in the twin-districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada with in-depth knowledge on all aspects of Islam. Mittabail Ustad was the son of Shaikh K P Siraj Koya, Qazi of Kiltan , Lakshadweep and Marhoomat Bifatima, Kannipura. He was the second of the three children of the couple.

Since the last 49 years,he was functioning as Mudarris if Mittabail Jumma Masjid and resided in his house at Shantiyangadi near Mittabail. Although he was unwell since sometime and was under treatment, he used to attend religious programmes and tours. 

Family sources said that the mortal remains of the Ustad have been kept in the Mittabail mosque, and the funeral will take place on Wednesday. He has left behind wife, Sakinabi, ten sons and two daughters. 

Mittabail Ustad had got his religious education at Ponnani, Kerala and secured Bakhavi degree through Bakhiyat Swalihat, Vellore. He also got honoured with Khasimi title from Deoband, North India. He functioned as honourary president, and director of various religious and educational institutions and had thousands of students and disciples. 

A huge crowd of fans and well-wishers lined up to pay respects to the deceased immediately after coming to know of his demise. Minister, Khader, expressed shock at the sudden demise of the religious scholar. A posse of dignitaries and leaders from various sectors has grieved his death.
