Talented youngster from Kundapur shines brightly in American cricket

Kundapur, Jan 8: Nikhil Krishna Kanchan from here has electrified the field of American cricket with his quick running, agile fielding, mature opening, excellent batting and skillful wicket keeping abilities. This all-rounder has been excelling in all fields of the game and thereby has succeeded in writing a new chapter in the history of American cricket. Naturally, all eyes have now turned towards this gifted young man.

Nikhil captained his team in the cricket tournament of Michigan State held in America during the last month. By bagging most of the awards which were presented there, he has re-written history and become the cynosure of all eyes.


In USA


In India in 2013

Kanchan has won several awards including that of the best player in 40-over cricket of Michigan Cricket Association, best T-20 player, best batsman in 40-over game, best batsman in T-20 game, best T-20 player in US Corporate Cup, best fielder, best batsman of Detroit super league etc. Nikhil, who has undertaken high training in cricket, and who is the captain of University of Michigan cricket team, has succeeded in bagging the championship for three continuous years.

Nikhil got interested in cricket when in high school. He was trained by Pradeep Vaz of Chakravarti Cricket Team Kundapur. Under Vaz, he learnt the nuances of a successful wicket keeper. When pursuing engineering degree course at Bangalore Institute of Technology, he led that college cricket team for four years, and earned laurels at the university level. He also registered bright performances as opening batsman of Neptune Cricket Club Bengaluru and wicket keeper of the team. He did very well in the second division league of Karnataka state.

Nikhil's performance is not confined to outdoor cricket alone. He has done exceedingly well even in indoor cricket. In the Indoor Cricket World Cup organized at New Zealand during October 2014, he performed well as opening batsman and wicket keeper.

In the indoor cricket tournament held at Sri Lanka too Nikhil proved is mettle. He gets credit for captaining Michigan state cricket team in US Open Cricket, University cup and other national tournaments successfully.

In the IPL model tournament held during December 2018 at Florida, he hit 87 runs against a team led by Andrew Russell of West Indies and ensured that his team won the game.

Nikhil Kanchan happens to be the son of K K Kanchan, president of Mogaveera Mahajana Seva Sangha Bagwady revenue division here, and Shantha Kanchan. He did his primary schooling at Little Rock Indian School Brahmavar and PU education in Viveka Junior College Kota. He bagged his engineering degree through Bangalore Institute of Technology and completed MS post-graduation through University of Michigan, USA.

Currently he is working as senior design engineer for Ford Motors at Tetradio. Sports enthusiasts have been highly appreciative of him for making India proud as a talented and all-round cricket player in the distant USA.
