This android app has been designed and developed by Rayan Christ D'Souza Shankarapura.

About the App

Redrop stands for regularly emended donors and receivers online portal.

There are blood donors of various groups in society, but several people die as blood is not available on time. The app has a list of donors in it. It also indicate when the donors are unavailable to give blood. The login/ registration to the app is very simple and not required in case of search for a donor. After selecting the area and the blood group, the names of donors and their telephone numbers are displayed on the app by a click by which one can get in touch with the donor.

This way the app creates a direct link between the donors and recipients. A person of any age group can register or maintain a profile in the application but only those above 18 years and interested to donate blood will appear on the list. The name of the donor only appears on the donors list when the donor clicks on the 'be a donor' button in the profile. This ensures that only those who wish to donate blood are viewed.

It is a unique and creative app. There may be repeated need or large units of blood required on certain occasions. Everybody cannot be contacted at once. Therefore, there is provision to enter the units of blood required under ‘poster requirement’ option. Once a requirement is posted, all the app users will be notified with the recipient name, blood group and units required, the area in which the hospital is located and the recipient contact number by which the donors can volunteer to donate blood.

Possibilities of misusing the app are less. After the blood requirements are achieved, the user who posted it can remove the requirement posted or it will be automatically erased in 48 hours.

The importance of blood donations and benefits of donating blood will be included in the days to come. The group's aim is to create the largest database/network of blood donors in the district of Udupi in the next six months of the application release to ensure that it is the people's app. “Many people want to donate blood but they do not find a platform for the same unless and until they are in contact with the people in need." Therefore, ICYM diocese of Udupi intends to create awareness about the app in colleges and public places,” said Dion D’Souza, president, ICYM, diocese of Udupi.

He says that this application is not meant for publicity or profit and therefore no advertisements will be viewed in the application. “Our achievement lies in the benefit derived from it by people. The app will have a database of blood donors in it. Blood donation is a proud deed. It should be the responsibility of everybody to donate blood."

Currently the App will be available in Android version from December 18. Soon it will be available on all platforms.
