Udupi: Gangolli, Byndoor, Yadthare GPs will go to polls with EVMs

Udupi, Dec 14: Election has been announced for 33 seats in Gangolli gram panchayat, 21 in Byndoor gram panchayat and 25 in Yadthare gram panchayat. The unique feature of the election this time is the use of electronic voting machines (EVM) for the first time in gram panchayat elections.

This was informed by additional deputy commissioner of the district, Vidya Kumari, addressing a press conference here on Thursday December 13.

She said that Gangolli gram panchayat has 10,461 voters spread over 12 polling booths, Yadthare will have 8,112 voters and nine booths, while Byndoor with 7,592 voters, will have ten polling booths.

At the same time, elections will also be held for vacant seats in Handadi, Yadthady, Kadekar, Bailoor, Nitte. Ulloor, Kergalu and Hosala constituencies. For the bypolls however, ballot papers will be used, she clarified.

"Election notification will be issued on December 17. Last date for filing of nominations would be December 20, nomination scrunity will take place on December 21, December 24 will the last date for withdrawal of nominations and January will be the polling day. Counting will be taken up on January 4," she explained.

Lead bank manager, Rudresh, deputy director of cooperative societies, Rudresh and Sakpath Kumar of election department were present.
