Udupi: Stone memorial with inscription found in Kervashe

Udupi, Dec 13: A memorial stone with inscription belonging to the initial period of Vijayanagara empire was found at Urmalakatta in Kervashe village, Karkala taluk.

Shrutesh Acharya, lecturer in history and archaeology, Crossland College, Brahmavar, and chief researcher of Prachya Sanchaya Samshodhana Kendra, Subhash Nayak Bantakallu, have found out that this stone belongs to 14th or 15th century.

The granite 'Veeragallu' stone has inscription in Kannada. In three of the frames of this four-frame stone, the writings have been obliterated. In the last frame, the writing, 'Veeragallu got made by younger brother' is found.

The pictures on the stone make one believe that this stone was got made by a man in honour of his elder brother, serving as soldier, who died in a battle.
