Mangaluru: Trawl boat sinks - all eight fishermen on board rescued

Mangaluru, Dec 11: A trawl boat that had left from the old port here for fishing sank at Arabian Sea on Monday December 10. All the eight fishermen, who were inside this ill-fated boat, have been rescued.

The trawl boat named 'Mother India' with eight fishermen had left the old port here for undertaking fishing activity four days back. On Monday morning, when the boat was undertaking fishing activity in deep sea about 50 to 60 km from here, the boat's engine developed technical problems. The fishermen then sought assistance from trawl boats sailing nearby. Three to four boats rushed to help the fishermen in distress. All the eight fishermen were rescued by the people in another boat named Sahara.

All the other boats then tried to tug the boat, Mother India, back to the shore, but they failed in their mission, The boat eventually sank, it is learnt.

The fishermen who faced danger were from Tamil Nadu. They reached the dock at the old port here on Monday evening.
