Kaup, Nov 22: In an incident which was reported from Kaup Majur here, a married woman on her return from visit to parental home, was driven out by her in-laws. It is said that she was ordered to bring
additional dowry.

The woman who faced dowry harassment in this way happens to be Tarnam Banu (28), from KHB Colony at Kunjathbail, Mangaluru.

Tarnam had married Sayyed Muzamil Hussain from Muloor Uchila near Kaup on August 16, 2015. The groom's family had demanded 70 sovereigns of gold and two lac rupees cash in the form of dowry. After
consultations, 43 sovereigns of gold and Rs 1.20 lac in cash were handed over in the form of dowry to the groom's family, family of the lady claims.

After the marriage, Tarnam's husband, Sayyed Muzamil, and his family members, Sayyed Iqbal Mazhar Pasha, Sadika Banu, Ashia Farzana and Haneef alias Azhar started to pressurize her to bring more dowry. Tarnam says that family members of her husband inflicted mental and physical torture on her. They also forcibly obtained her signatures on certain documents, she said. Later, the accused reportedly asked Tarnam Banu to visit her parents, duly leaving back her gold in their house.

Tarnam filed a private complaint in the court, saying that the family members of her husband had fraudulently obtained signatures on certain papers about which she did not have any knowledge. She felt that this would have been done to misuse her trust and cheat her. She said that when she came back from her parental home, the family of her husband drove her out of the house.

As per the order passed by the court, Kaup police have registered a case of dowry harassment relating to this incident.
