Nature's stunner in Moodbidri as ground turns into water bed

Daijiworld Media Network – Moodbidri (EP)

Moodbidri, Oct 17: A nature's wonder has occurred here Moodbidri. The ground that appears strong at the surface joggles like a soft spring. If a person jumps from where he stands, its outer layer goes down like a sponge and comes up. These characteristics were found in one acre land in Popson, Kadandale village.

Suman Shetty, a student and also a resident of Kadandale village who is interested in photography was the first to see the phenomenon.

Suman and his friends who go to hills and forests to capture the beautiful scenes of nature saw the bouncing ground in Popson. Suman says that the feeling of walking here is like walking on spring or on water. “Ground jolts like water waves if one jumps on it. The ground is as soft as that,” he says. Villagers too are curious about the wonder.

“It happens because the gas in the ground comes on the surface and behaves like water bed. The phenomenon is seen in Siberia sometimes. It is found for the first time in India. There is vacuum deep inside mud. Such characteristics can be seen when mud or leaves cover the surface,” says Mangaluru university geology scholar Dr Gangadhar Bhat.
