Puttur, Feb 14: Continuing with their activities of altruism of the past, police personnel of Uppinangady helped an aged, orphaned man to have a roof over his head. The police proved to be the saviours for Nemu Poojary (76) from Dentadka in Biliyoor village, who was leading a desolate life in his advanced age having lost all his close ones. The police ensured that he got accommodated in a home for the aged.

Sarvesh Kumar, a journalist from Uppinangady, who came to know about problems faced by Nemi Poojary with no one to look after him, drew the attention of Uppinangady police towards his predicament. The police thereafter contacted the relatives of Nemu to find whether anyone among them is prepared to look after the senior citizen. The police, during the course of this process, realized that the children of Nemu do not have any attachment or respect towards their father as he had deserted his wife and children at a young age. They decided against bringing pressure on his children to care for their father.

With the support of the Billava organization in Perne village, under the leadership of social worker from there, Naveen and others, the man was given a bath, after which he was treated in a hospital. Thereafter, he was provided accommodation in Bharat Sevashram, Kanyana.

The special initiative undertaken by one of the police personnel from Uppinangady, identified as Harishchandra, under the guidance of senior officers in the department, in making sure that Poojary will lead the rest of his life in peace without any problem, has come in for lavish praise. Although the sub-inspector of the station too put in sincere efforts in this endeavour like he has done in the past, he earnestly requested media persons to desist from mentioning his name anywhere in the reports as he said he has done his normal duty and will face discomfiture if his name is published.
