Mangaluru, Jan 7: Thousands of Mangalureans of all ages on Sunday January 7 converged for 'Run for Peace and Harmony' marathon organized by the parish of St Sebastian Church, Permannur to mark the centenary celebrations of the church.

J R Lobo, MLA and Walter Nandalike, founder of Daijiworld, flagged off the marathon along with Fr J B Saldanha, parish priest, Fr Wilfred Rodrigues of Carmel congregation, and Fr Edwin Mendonca, principal, St Sebastian Educational Institutions.

The marathon began from Kudru near Netravati river and culminated at Permannur church ground.

Addressing the gathering, J R Lobo said, "I thank the parish priest and the entire parish for organizing this run. Events such as these are very essential in current days. It will help us stay united in society and cross the barriers of religion, language and caste. Peace and harmony is what our society needs the post. It is every individual’s responsibility to spread the message of harmony.

"I congratulate the people of Ullal for participating in this marathon. I hope this run will set an example for our district. There is no doubt that this event will open the eyes of hate mongers and communal minds towards peaceful existence," he added.

Walter Nandalike said, "Nowadays our district is passing through a very crucial time. We keep hearing news of peace disrupting incidents almost every day. So today’s marathon gains significance because it conveys message of peace and harmony. Because of the action of one percent of the population, the rest 99% is suffering. Now is the time to come together and fight against communal forces. This marathon will help unite people, especially the youth and hence solidarity in the local area."

Over a thousand parishioners and locals of Ullal participated in the marathon. The first, second and third place holders in men and women categories were awarded attractive prizes.

I was truly touched by the unity and solidarity showed by people of all walks of life at the Marathon event today irrespective of caste and creed.
When there is disharmony life gets crippled and poor people suffer a lot having no food to eat as they are not able to work. So on the occasion of centenary celebration, we decided to organize a Marathon race to promote Peace and Harmony.
Thanks everyone for your encouragement and support. God bless you all.
Please join us to celebrate the centenary events here at St Sebastian Church, Permannur, on 19th, 20th and 21st January 2018.
Thanks again for supporting Marathon in promoting Peace and Harmony. God bless.

Tippu or other jayanthi won't give poor people daily bread..if our educated people future to be settle in Mangalore we need to elect people like Jr lobo ..he is one person who know how different type of fund utilized for people welfare..before 5 years all Mangalore roads are lacking.. People need to see development by one who done for public... 0.01% other issue don't effect dynamic and progracive leader like j r lobo..
Don't see with blind eyes just his work says what is truth..he have all the rights to reelect for his progressive work..
