Mangaluru, May 5: As the city is facing the drinking water problems due to the shortage of water resources, the MLA of Mangaluru South constituency J R Lobo offered prayers for rains at Mangaladevi temple, bishop's house chapel in Kodialbail and Nadupalli Jamia masjid in Boloor on Thursday, May 5.

In all the places, special prayers were offered for the rains. The bishop of Mangaluru diocese Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza conducted the special prayer session at the bishop’s house.

Speaking to media persons in Nadupalli Jamia masjid Lobo said "There is scarcity of drinking water everywhere. Along with our city, our state and the whole country are also facing the scarcity of water. The cattle are dying and the rivers are not flowing. Normally the pre-monsoon showers provide relief every year. But this year we have not seen rains. Hence we have offered the special prayers for the rains. We hope that the God almighty will listen to our prayers at the earliest."

Congress leaders, KPCC member Masood, T K Sudhir, corporators Prakash Salian, Lancelot Pinto and others were present.

If prayers had worked we could have prayed for rains to fall in deserts and transformed them into forests and fertile lands. This drama of prayer is just an excuse for the politicians' lack of will and water management. There are so many rivers in mangalore which they can make use of for water supply but they have done nothing so far. They could have built the infrastructure to tap the water of these rivers which they haven't done and now they are playing foul games of praying for rain.

These acts are for Political Gain. A Fake Congress Corporator of Kadri was boasting that God did not Vote for Him. But now He stands in prayer crowd to meet God instead of Vote but just for Rain. But how truthful He is in prayers is questionable. Less rain means more money in His Pocket.

Lobo Sir, Whichever political party you are, it doesn't matter. For us the need of the hours is PROTECTING MOTHER NATURE. You visited Temple, Church, Mosque offered prayers. It's tremendously over whelming & commendable effort. And this shouldn't end here. Offering prayers are one part, but will that do everything??. On the other hand we are exploiting nature at our very best.
It would have much better if political representative cutting across different parties come together and stop these exploitation and preserve the nature for future generations, the it would be great work. It may not be easy task, to happen in a year, or two. But we need a start. I think you can do that. A small spark itself, ignites the flames isn't it??.
So the request is do a framework, prepare a long term project with the help of political representatives, bureaucrats, top officials from concerned departments, environmental engineers, scientists, ecologists geologists, environmental activists, stake holders from different business sectors. Prepare a committee to Study how the Impact on ecology can minimized, so as the future generations will not suffer, due these exploitation's. It's not a easy job, but we need some one to stat this. You are the right person.
At last everyone needs a bit food, water & shelter. Now if people don't get these. What are we achieving??. We need to honestly ask ourselves.

“Be alert for the first signs of change.”
You must have all heard of story of the frog in boiling water. If the temperature of the water is suddenly increased, the frog realizes it and jumps out of the water. But if the temperature is very slowly increased, one degree at a time, the frog does not realize it till it boils to death. You must develop your own early warning system, which warns you of changes and calls your attention to it. In the case of change, being forewarned is being forearmed. - Azeem Premji

I think we are those frogs. we should have had a controlled population. because of huge population of humans & bovine animals, there is over consumption of resources like water and huge discharge of pollution. the replenishment is slow. therefore each year water levels are going down & down. because of increased CO2 levels in our atmosphere temperatures are rising. The news of heat waves killing humans is alarming. in the Coming years this is going to increase further.

try to draft a long term policy on conservation of water. bring a population policy.save the planet . doing these things will not help much to people at large. may bring few more votes to you.

The Indian people have misused the bounty of nature.

There were fewer than 100 million in 1700. The nature's supply was generally enough.

People thought they could increase their numbers, and the nature would provide.

So by 1945, the population climbed to 250 million.

People thought they could increase their numbers as much as they wanted, and the nature would provide.

The number of the people has gone up to 1300 million.

People are having some second thoughts about the population increase due to lack of water. But once the rainy season starts...

Nothing wrong in praying to god for the rain or any personal favors, but showing off, getting pictures while praying, making publicity is just not a prayer, no need to visit several religious places to pray for rain.
If you pray quietly at home, god will listen to your prayers, these politicians should first learn & then educate public to use water economically, avoid wasting water, and make all arrangements to avoid such a situations.
If praying to god can solve all the problems then I don't think you need to be CM, MLA, Minister, or any other govt official.

If you do want to ray to an isolated place. Pray with good heart and mind. If you try tod do charity with your right hand it Should not even be known to your left hand.

Then why is this nataka and photos.. news.. for publicity? If you want jsut close your room and pray alone in faith. God will reward you and ultimately people of Mangalore.

If it rains tomorrow, let us consider Lobam made miracle otherwise tragic. Who knows what he prayed and for whom? For his own water resources, survival, waitress, pappu, or robertam… and last but not the least for nidde ramayya? We never can read peoples mind specially these politicians. This is subject to God's will. If we believe in him, he always has his own plans. He is wise, kind, caring.... But whatever is does surely there must be a reason behind it.

Nevertheless let us do our part of work. As there is a saying man proposes but God disposes. Let us hope of good.

They should have planned this program at least a month before so that by now everything would have been fine.

Offering prayers to god will not bring rain, first these people should ne made aware of the root causes of water scarcity & declining rainfall, crazy people, first we destroy our environment and then we expect god to shower water from the top.

Mr Karthik Karkeka, Mangalore: I agree with your comments. We have destroyed and manipulated the Mother Nature for personal gains and amassing wealth, rather than respecting the WILL of the Creator of the Mother Earth. The politicians without any exceptions have and are destroying the Fragile Rain Bearing Western Ghats and diverting the Netravathi River by means of Money Swindling Yettinahole Project and they are the major culprits for this drought calamity.
Do you expect the God to listen to our rubbish when we have not obeyed his commands and destroyed the gift of the Mother Nature he had given to us? I have mentioned in the past and repeat the same here that we will have to pay the price for our misdeeds specially of the Politicians. We do not deserve any Mercy and Sympathy of the God, the Creator but his goodness only can save us. JAI HIND
