Appeal: Critical Kiran D'Silva undergoing treatment in Dubai seeks financial help

Daijiworld Media Network – Dubai (DV)

Dubai, May 19: Kiran Stephen John D'Silva, a 47-year-old man is undergoing treatment at Mediclinic Hospital in Dubai for intracerebral haemorrhage.

Kiran collapsed in the washroom of his residence on May 12, 2021. Immediately, after the incident, Kiran was rushed to the Mediclinic Hospital and the CT scan of the brain taken in the hospital showed intracerebral haemorrhage. Immediately, the doctors performed brain surgery to remove the blood clot. At present, his right side is paralyzed and he is in a critical condition.

A year ago, Kiran lost his job due to the pandemic. Failure to support his family, led him into severe anxiety. In addition, his medical insurance and work visa was terminated. Though the family tried to work with the insurance agency, there was no luck. As it was the beginning of the Eid holidays, the family was unable to obtain a new medical insurance. Therefore, Kiran's wife is desperately trying to raise funds to offset Kiran’s medical expenses.

Till now, Kiran's surgery expenses were Dhs 80,000 (INR 16 lac) and ICU cost is Dhs 10,000 per day (INR 2 lac). As the latest CT scan showed bleeding in the brain and he is sedated, it will take few days to normalize the bleeding. According to his doctor, he will be in the ICU for approximately 18 days. The total hospital expenses are approximately Dhs 500,000 (INR 1 crore) excluding medication, rehab, and other expenses (extra tests and procedures).

Kiran hails from Pumpwell in Mangaluru. He has a 5-year-old son and wife.

As the family is not able to bear the hospital expenses, they have humbly requested the donors to come forward and help Kiran in his treatment.

As per UAE Government Rules, all employers must provide medical insurance to their employees . unfortunately Kirans Medical insurance had expired just 6 days before he fell ill. All medical expenses are to be paid by the person or by his employer.

So sorry to hear this. It's our duty to help that too when he is from our own place. I am aware, we have many more Mangalorean living in UAE. Please come forward and donate from 100 to 1000 AED. I want to mention some point here. I hear lot of people staying here even after loosing jobs. They feel good to think that they will find new job . Job market in UAE is not rosy at this time . Once you loose job , you loose visa and insurance. Please go back then search from home country for any job if you want. So many cases of overstay, then running pillars for donations.

I am totally endorsing your suggestion. Living in Dubai without job and Insurance is crime, specially if spouse is not working. Medicare is costliest hospital in Dubai , should have first admitted in emergency to a government hospital, then shifted to private hospitals whose charges are reasonable. There are many.

In fact, this has been circulated in WhatsApp group recently in UAE. I did my little contribution here in Dubai itself. I hope that all like minded people will contribute generously too.
