Udupi: Appeal for help - Throat cancer puts Jagannath Poojary's family in dire straits

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (ANK)

Udupi, Jan 12: Until a few months ago, Jagannath Poojary was working at a hotel in Mumbai to feed his family of wife and two daughters back home in Nandalike, Belman. Today, the family is in dire straits as Jagannath has been diagnosed with throat cancer, and is presently undergoing treatment.

Jagannath Poojary (60), a resident of Nandalike has been suffering from throat cancer since October 2019. It all started when he experienced severe throat pain and difficulty in swallowing food, accompanied by bouts of vomiting. He then consulted a doctor in Ramakrishna Hospital in Mumbai.

On October 5, Jaganath arrived at his hometown of Nandalike and got admitted to KMC Hospital. The doctors at KMC detected throat cancer and began treatment.

Jagannath belongs to a very poor family and is the lone breadwinner. His wife Malathi rolls beedis. The couple has two young daughters, who are both in schools.

"Doctors have not given much hope about his survival. So far we have spent around Rs 2 lac for his treatment. He was discharged on January 4 and will be going for treatment again on January 17," says Malathi.

"Jagannath cannot swallow any kind of hard food. He is taking only liquid food for the last couple of months. We are in a bad situation as he was the only bread winner for us. We are finding it difficult to pay even the school fees of our daughters," she says.

@ Manju, Kasaragodu, now a days not only cancer but also Kidney failure has become very common menace in this materialistic modern life. These diseases put most of the common/middle class people in big problem. This will not only burn our pockets but also mental peace. It is such a disease,we can not leave them at home nor we can take them along with us when we go to attend ceremonies like wedding, baby showers and other related programs.Because we can not predict their condition what would happen to them in next few moments.Such is their conditions.I don't know whether it is our past or present Karma, what we are undergoing. But we have to.People can not understand our agonies, pain how we are suffering nor we are in a position to disclose our predicament. Both cancer and Kidney failure are deadly diseases without any end results.

What a tragic story...Cancer has become a common menace in today's world. Two of my neighbours succumbed to this disease just recently and one person of the same name as above. People should practice yoga, have a good diet. I think drinking lime juice (hot water) early morning is also helpful.
