Spelling mistakes spotted in Smriti Irani's letter, inquiry ordered

New Delhi, Aug 21 (Agencies): After a teacher highlighted the spelling mistakes in the Education Minister's letter, Smriti Irani has become a butt of jokes on social media platforms.

In the letter, which was sent to schoolteachers applauding them for the performance of their students, the words 'Minister' and 'Sansadhan' were spelt incorrectly.

Richa Kumar of Delhi Public School spotted the error and posted it on her Facebook page along with a note.

The post read as follows:

"Thank you for congratulating me on the excellence I exemplify. However, having been a teacher for the last twenty years, your official letter head is an affront to my sensibilities as a Language teacher. The attached photographs are self explanatory. Please ensure that at least the people who work for you, in your ministry, are well educated."

On learning about it, Education Minister Smriti Irani has ordered an inquiry into the matter.

Clarifying that the mistake was not made by her, Irani posted on Twitter, "I would not misspell my own name in Hindi."

Excuse me don't justify a dumb Minister. This a total ineptness on the part of the minister. First of all she is useless and the people around her are even worse, then you can imagine the state of the HRD ministry, Government Of India. If the minister is good for nothing at least have qualified people around you. Ms Richa Kumar should be given a chance in the ministry.

Not at all a big issue. These type of mistakes make happen anytime anywhere.Cited and will be corrected. Appreciate the fact that an under graduate lady has rose to the rank of Cabinet Minister and heading prestigious HRD ministry.Watch her oratory skill in English...and I am sure that highly educated most of DW commentators can not match with her ability and can only write nasty comments in this forum.

To be honest, the teacher is a bigger duffer than the minister. Notice carefully, that the letter written by Smriti is perfectly ok. Only the letter head which must have been printed by a Government authorized sub contractor has a letter missing in it. So what is the great issue about it ? A teacher who doesn't know the difference between a printed letter head and written content. I pity her students.

Teachers are trained to find mistakes in others letters or answers & correct them & to evaluate their performance based on it, it doesn't apply to them!
If corrected by students or small kids let their parents know, they will get very angry & scold the kids rather than appreciate & get prepared before coming to the class next time (it applies to some teachers only, who have secured the job not by merit but by influence).

Grammatical/spelling errors aren't really surprising when committed by politicians whose first language might not have been English in the first place. But what about the language of this 'holier than thou' teacher of English? Does she think letterhead is two words instead of one?

    Dear readers,

please note that there is an error in Smriti Irani's reply to Saurabh Rai itself (please see the reply on Facebook mentioned above).

Her reply says "Have asked the concerned organisation to give an explanation." This is incorrect as far as English grammar is concerned. The correct reply should read "Have asked the organisation concerned to give an explanation." The readers can draw their own inference about this Minister.

I pity the Vice Chancellors and Professors who have to take instructions from her. God save this country from such a useless and inept Minister. Like her boss, she may a good actress on screen but is a total misfit for this post. She is a bull in a China shop.
