New Delhi, Jul 4: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a PIL seeking direction to the BCCI to approach the ICC for rescheduling the Cricket World Cup to be held in the West Indies between March 13 and April 25, 2007 as the dates coincided with examination season in India.

Petitioner Umakant Agnihotri, a resident of Nagpur, wanted the court to pass an order that if the dates of the Cricket World Cup 2007 were not changed by the ICC inspite of request by the BCCI, the telecast of these matches be banned on any audio-vidual media in India till the end of April 2007.

As the Bench of Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice D K Jain was not inclined to entertain the petition, Agnihotri's counsel chose to withdraw the petition and the same was "dismissed as withdrawn".

When the counsel urged the court to allow the petitioner to make a representation to the BCCI on the issue, the Bench observed he could always do that and there was no need for any permission from the court.

In his petition filed through counsel S R Setia, the petitioner had submitted that if both the Cricket World Cup and school/college examinations were held during the same period students' studies would be adversely affected in view of the craze for the game.

However, the court was not impressed by his submission.
