Obama says fear of his wife keeps him from smoking

Washington, Sep 25 (IANS/EFE): US President Barack Obama told a UN official that fear of first lady Michelle Obama motivated him to stop smoking.

Obama, unaware of being caught over an open mic, was chatting with UN Special Rapporteur Maina Kiai during an event at United Nations headquarters in New York.

"I hope you quit smoking," Obama said as the two men greeted each other.

Kiai admitted to the president that he hadn't given up smoking altogether, to which Obama answered that "I haven't had a cigarette in probably six years."

"That's because I'm scared of my wife," the president confided during an exchange that was aired on CNN.

Obama acknowledged in recent years that he was struggling to stop smoking, while the first lady, a promoter and champion of healthy living, was one of the people who most insisted on it.

Obama was still a smoker when he had his first medical checkup as president in February 2010.

However, months after being elected president, he admitted that he still smoked from time to time. It wasn't until 2011 that doctors confirmed that Obama was leading a smoke-free life.

Except Obama was lying when he said that he hadn't smoked in 6 years. Who is surprised?

Despite his claim to having had a cigarette in six years, Obama had one at least as recently as February 2010, according to Dr. Jeffrey Kuhlman, who performed a physical and who was quoted in the New York Times on February 28, 2010.

In December 2010, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Obama hadn’t had a cigarette in nine months.

Michelle Obama initially asked Americans to watch out and to try to catch her husband smoking on the campaign trail in 2008 but she gave him a pass for smoking in March 2010.

Obama can't even be honest during candid personal moments....he can ONLY lie. Do not trust him on anything.
