Panaji, Nov 8: Palolem Beach in South Goa has been named the best beach in Asia and ranked sixth among the world's top 25 beaches in Beach.com's Global Beach Index 2026, placing Goa's coastline in the global tourism spotlight.
Palolem is the only Asian beach to feature in the global top 25 list, according to the ranking reported by PTI on Sunday.
Located in Canacona taluka, Palolem is known for its crescent-shaped bay, white sandy shoreline, palm trees and relatively calm waters. The beach was recognised for its quality, amenities, water conditions and overall visitor experience.

Beach.com's Global Beach Index 2026 evaluated beaches based on expert nominations, visitor reviews, NASA data on water colour and clarity, and 18 standardised parameters covering popularity, public sentiment, accessibility and climate.
Palolem offers a range of activities, including swimming, kayaking, dolphin-watching boat trips and exploring nearby backwaters. Its coastal villages, eateries and wellness facilities also add to its appeal among domestic and international visitors.
Goa Tourism Minister Rohan A Khaunte said the international recognition reflected the natural beauty of the state's coastline and the distinctive experiences that attract travellers from around the world. He said the government was working to move beyond tourism driven solely by visitor numbers and promote responsible and regenerative tourism while protecting the environment, local communities and Goa's cultural identity.
Tourism Director Kedar Naik said the recognition endorsed Goa's standing in international tourism and would help showcase South Goa while encouraging visitors to explore the state's coastline, hinterland and cultural attractions.
The recognition comes as Goa seeks to establish itself as a year-round tourism destination, with greater emphasis on hinterland tourism, heritage trails, wellness, culinary experiences, spirituality and nature-based travel.
