Yemen, Oct 24: Fighting has resumed between Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces and Houthi fighters on the eastern front near Taiz, with heavy weapons, artillery and air strikes reportedly used in the clashes, according to Al Jazeera Arabic.

In a separate development, the Houthis launched an attack on al-Maqatra Castle in Lahij governorate in southern Yemen, a military source told Al Jazeera.

According to the source, the attack began at around 2 am local time on Saturday, following Houthi military movements and preparations reported since Friday evening.

The source also said the Houthis had flown a reconnaissance drone over the castle on Thursday evening. Government forces stationed at the site reportedly attempted to shoot down the drone before the attack began in the early hours of Saturday.

The latest developments come amid renewed fighting between the Houthis and forces aligned with Yemen's internationally recognised government, raising fresh concerns over security in the country's conflict-affected regions.
