Mumbai, Oct 21: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty on Police Commemoration Day on Wednesday, October 21.

Fadnavis laid floral tributes to the fallen personnel at a ceremony in Mumbai, which was also attended by Mayor Ritu Tawde.

Addressing the gathering, Fadnavis remembered police officers and personnel from across the country who sacrificed their lives while performing their duties. He saluted their courage, dedication and commitment to public service.

“Throughout the year, among various police forces in India, police officers and personnel lost their lives while performing their duties with immense determination. Today, we have gathered here to pay tribute to our brave brothers and sisters. I humbly salute the sacred memory of the martyrs. Jai Hind, Jai Maharashtra,” he said.

In a post on X, Fadnavis also highlighted the sacrifices made by police personnel and their role in protecting society, describing their courage and unwavering commitment as an enduring source of inspiration.

Modi also paid homage to the fallen personnel, acknowledging the contribution of police forces in maintaining law and order, combating crime, responding to emergencies and ensuring public safety.

In his message on X, the prime minister expressed gratitude to police personnel who continue to serve under challenging circumstances and remembered those who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

Police Commemoration Day is observed annually on October 21 to honour 10 Central Reserve Police Force personnel who were killed in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh on October 21, 1959.

The personnel were part of a patrol operating in the area when they came under attack. Their sacrifice is remembered every year, along with tributes to police personnel across the country who have died while protecting citizens and safeguarding national security.
