Mangaluru, Oct 20: Ahead of the Mogaveerapatna Saradotsava, the police department has clarified its stance, stating that it wants the procession to take place peacefully and without any disruptions.
In view of the issues that arose during last year's procession, where cases were registered against certain individuals who are reportedly still involved in the event, the police deemed it necessary to take appropriate preventive measures to ensure a peaceful procession this year.

As part of these measures, the police requested the organisers of the respective tableaux to execute preventive bonds. The request was made in the interest of maintaining public order. Initially, the police sought individual bonds from the organisers of each tableau. However, when the organisers approached the police commissioner's office and requested that a single bond be accepted on behalf of everyone, the police agreed to the compromise.
Despite this concession, the organisers subsequently refused to execute even a single bond. They reportedly stated that they would proceed as they wished without furnishing any bond, and challenged the police to arrest them.
The police stated that they have acted with restraint and made reasonable efforts to secure cooperation from the organisers. Authorities clarified that the preventive measures are not intended to obstruct the religious or cultural procession, but to ensure that it takes place strictly in accordance with the law.
"If any individual or group attempts to commence or conduct the procession with the intention of creating disturbances or violating the law, the police will take appropriate preventive action under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) as warranted by the circumstances, to maintain peace and prevent any untoward incidents," the police warned.
The department has urged the organisers and participants to cooperate with the authorities and ensure that the Saradotsava procession is conducted responsibly.
