Inauguration of unique ‘Kinusaiga’ fabric art piece of Mother Mary at St Alphonsa Church, Nelyadi

Media Release

Puttur, Oct 15: A unique artwork of Mother Mary created in the traditional Japanese ‘Kinusaiga’ fabric art style, crafted by the St Alphonsa Youth Movement (SMYM) of St Alphonsa Church, Nelyadi, was inaugurated and unveiled by Rev Mar James Patteril, bishop of the Beltangady diocese.

The unveiling took place in the presence of Fr Rijo (Udane), Fr Shibi Arla, Fr Jins Addahole, Fr Binoy Joseph (Shiradi), Fr Lawrence Poonolil (diocesan chancellor), along with Church trustees Rajesh and Sebastian. Fr Shaji Mathew, vicar of St Alphonsa Shrine, Nelyadi, welcomed the gathering and shared insights about the initiative.

The artwork was meticulously crafted using leftover fabric scraps collected from local tailoring shops, creatively arranged to form a striking visual piece. Combining artistic expression with environmental awareness, this eco-friendly initiative has drawn widespread praise from the public. Hundreds of visitors and parishioners have been visiting St Alphonsa Church to view the art piece.

The creation of this artwork was a collaborative effort involving SMYM members—Disha, Dinu, Jaison, Jithu, Sanusha, Abhin, Joel, Naveen, Litto, Shan, Anoop, and Ashton—along with Mathruvedi members Rosakutty Kuttichira, Bindu Jayesh, Sholy George, and Princy Rajesh.

The creative endeavour was successfully executed under the guidance and direction of Fr Shaji Mathew, parish priest of Nelyadi St Alphonsa Church.
