Pipeline bursts leave Canacona areas without water for three days

Canacona, Oct 13: Frequent pipeline bursts have severely disrupted water supply to Mokhard, Shristhal and Mastimal in Canacona taluka over the past three days, with major leakages leaving taps dry and causing considerable inconvenience to residents and government office staff.

Panchayat member Ramu Naik said residents of Mokhard were facing particular hardship as there was no alternative source of water available in the area apart from the piped supply.

The main water supply pipelines from Chapoli dam to Canacona run along the highway, making it difficult for the drinking water department to carry out immediate repairs.

“As the use of heavy machinery is often not feasible, repairs have to be carried out manually, delaying repairs,” a local resident said.

Pradeep Naik, assistant engineer at the Canacona water supply department, said repair work on the affected pipelines was being carried out on a war footing.

Meanwhile, locals have demanded a permanent solution to the recurring problem, stating that frequent pipeline bursts continue to disrupt water supply and leave residents without access to their regular source of drinking water.
