Media Release

Mangaluru, Oct 1: As part of Rashtriya Poshan Maah–2026, the NSS Unit of Yenepoya Naturopathy and Yogic Science College and Hospital (YNYSCH), Naringana, Deralakatte, Mangaluru, organized a nutrition awareness programme at Kallarakodi Anganwadi on September 30.

The programme was organized with the objective of strengthening awareness about nutrition and anaemia prevention, particularly among children and women, and highlighting the importance of including iron-rich foods in the daily diet.

The NSS volunteers interacted with the Anganwadi teacher and helper and provided awareness on anaemia, its nutritional causes, the importance of iron in the diet, and the role of locally available iron-rich foods in maintaining good health. The importance of a balanced diet and regular consumption of iron-rich foods was also emphasized.

As part of the programme, an iron-rich nutrition grocery kit was distributed to the Anganwadi. The kit contained a variety of iron-rich grocery items that could be incorporated into food preparation at the Anganwadi and would support nutritional practices for approximately one week.

The programme aimed to translate nutrition awareness into practical dietary practices by demonstrating how commonly available food ingredients can contribute to improving dietary iron intake and supporting the prevention of nutritional anaemia.

The programme was organized by the NSS volunteers of YNYSCH under the guidance of NSS programme officer Dr Ajith K, associate professor cum dietitian, department of nutrition and dietetics. The NSS volunteers actively participated in the awareness session, interaction with the Anganwadi staff and distribution of the nutrition kit.

The initiative formed part of the month-long Rashtriya Poshan Maah–2026 activities of YNYSCH, emphasizing the importance of community participation, nutrition education and practical approaches towards building a healthier and better-nourished society.
