Udupi, Sep 28: As per the directions of the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, Bengaluru, a total of 61,367 cases were settled in a single day during the National Lok Adalat held across various courts in Udupi, Kundapur, Karkala, and Byndoor in the district.

The resolved matters included 261 compoundable cheque dishonour cases, 79 bank and money recovery cases, two matrimonial disputes, 3,190 other civil cases, 47 Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) cases, one labour dispute, three finance-related cases, 12 other criminal cases, and 57,772 pre-litigation cases.

Through these settlements, a total compensation amount of Rs 14,45,52,485 was declared.

A press release from the principal district and sessions judge stated that the Lok Adalat was successfully conducted with the complete cooperation of the judiciary, district legal services authority, taluk legal services committees, bar associations of Udupi, Kundapur, Karkala, Byndoor, and Brahmavar, department of prosecutions, government litigation department, police, revenue, and mines and geology departments, along with insurance companies, banks, litigants, and other government departments.
