Mangaluru, Sep 26: “Knowledge and peace of mind are the true sources of happiness in life and a secure future. As long as I am alive, I wish to continue supporting the education of children who are in need,” said veteran educationist Narayan Nayak, popularly known as ‘Scholarship Sir’, after receiving the 12th Moolatva Vishwa Award.
The award was presented to Narayan Nayak at a programme organised by the Moolatva Foundation and Charitable Trust at Government First Grade College, Balmata.
Speaking on the occasion, Narayan Nayak said that education is a form of wealth that can never be stolen. He expressed his belief that timely financial assistance to children who have the willingness and ability to study can help them become self-reliant.
“During my career as a teacher and even after retirement, I have always worked according to my conscience. I have lived a fulfilling life for 80 years. The years ahead are bonus years for me, and therefore I have no fear of death. I wish to spend the rest of my life helping children who need support for their education,” he said.
Narayan Nayak donates Rs 2 lac for scholarships
The award carried a cash prize of Rs 1 lac. Demonstrating his continued commitment to education, Narayan Nayak added another Rs 1 lac from his own funds and donated a total of Rs 2 lac towards scholarships for deserving students.
The amount will be distributed equally between Government First Grade College, Balmatta, and Government First Grade College, Rathbeedi, with Rs 1 lac allocated to each institution.
De-addiction campaign highlighted
The programme was attended by Mangalore South MLA Vedavyas Kamath, MRPL general manager Manoj Kumar K, Balmatta College principal Dr Gopalakrishna K, Rathbeedi College principal Prof Jayaram Bhandary M, BASF Chemicals Asia-Pacific director Ashima Sushilchandra, actor-director J P Thuminad, known for Su From So, and Ankuram Group of Educational Institutions president Akshay K Panicker as chief guests.
Shynee Moolathva, Trustee of the Moolatva Foundation, presented the objectives and report of the de-addiction campaign undertaken by the organisation. Pamphlets promoting the vision of a drug-free India were also unveiled during the programme.
Students of Balmatta and Rathbeedi colleges presented cultural programmes. Trustee Kalpana P Kotyan was also present on the dais.
Award committee member Dr. Jagadish Bala introduced the award recipient to the gathering. Moolatva Foundation Founder-President Prakash Moolathva welcomed the gathering and delivered the introductory remarks. Gunavathi proposed the vote of thanks, while Dr. Manjula Shetty compered the programme.
